MYC Director David Maxwell
Growing up in the south, ministry was the last thing on my mind. While growing up on the MS gulf coast my goals were to play sports and make money. Then at 19 years old I had an encounter with God that forever changed my life. My priorities changed and my purpose changed. One year later I felt like God was calling me to the ministry. I finished my degree in Banking and Finance from MS State University and started working at a church as the Youth Pastor/Janitor! That was the only way they could afford to pay me. Since then it has been and incredible story of a faithful grace filled God guiding and leading me throughout this life.
I youth pastored for 20 years across the south, but mainly in my home state of MS. Then the door opened for me to become the Youth and Children’s director for Mississippi. This has put me in a place to really pour into and empower leaders across our great state. Meeting all the great people across our state, seeing their passion, and learning more about the amazing communities we have in MS has been a constant source of joy. I I have been stretched and grown more than I could have thought possible and become more dependent on God than ever.
My wife Angie and I have been married over 27 years and have been on this ministry journey together. We have two children, who are in college. The family is a constant source of joy and just being together as a family is still one of my favorite pastimes.
For fun, I am a leadership junkie and am usually listening to a podcast or reading a book about leadership. I have a blog about making an impact with your everyday life: www.davidthemaxwell.com. You can usually find me in the kitchen cooking or baking and of course eating. I try to compete in a triathlon once a year to stay in shape because of my love of cooking and eating! Angie and I enjoy traveling and hope to see more of the world.
